Dear Faculty,

Thanks to the vaccines, we are now able to live with the Coronavirus and start to return to a semblance of normality. However, in order to do that, it is crucial that as many people as possible are vaccinated. Our intention is to open the campuses of the university and try and bring back to campus as much of academic life as possible after the Pesach break (4th April 2021). To do this successfully, we need everyone to behave responsibly for the sake of others as we are truly dependent on each other.

It is crucial that we continue to uphold the guidelines everywhere on campus (whether outside, indoors, in the classrooms, labs, libraries and cafeterias) including the wearing of masks and keeping physical distance from others where necessary.

Below are the guidelines that will be in place from the 4th April 2021:

Entering / Exiting the Campuses

  • Entrance to the campus will be possible for all faculty (senior and junior) who can present a Green Pass or a negative coronavirus test from the last 72 hours when entering the campus.
  • Faculty who do not have a Green Pass will not be able to teach in the hybrid classrooms or in any other classroom and will continue to teach online. Faculty who do not have a Green Pass, but do have a negative coronavirus test will be able to lead their teaching labs / professional training and go to their research labs or offices. They are not permitted to enter the libraries (borrowing will continue to be done online picking up the books at the library entrance).
  • Research labs will continue to function according to the “Purple Label” guidelines, however, a research lab where faculty, technical staff and research students all have a green passport can function under the Green Pass guidelines.
  • Faculty who for medical reasons are unable to be vaccinated are requested to bring a letter from their doctor and will receive permission (from the Security Unit) to enter the campus. On entry to the campus, they will need to fill in a health declaration and have their temperature taken.
  • The wearing of masks is obligatory on campus.
  • There will be spot-checks carried out by the Security Unit around campus and at the entrance to classrooms to ensure that the guidelines are followed.
  • The Faculty of Health Sciences will follow the guidelines set out for the Health professions.

Entering / Exiting Classrooms

  • Faculty who are scheduled to teach in the hybrid classrooms will teach in the classrooms (unless they do not have a Green Pass – see above). Click here for information on how to use the hybrid classrooms.
  • Courses not being held in hybrid classrooms can continue to be taught online  – please let your secretariat and the students know ahead of time.
  • FYI – only students who have a Green Pass are allowed to enter the classrooms and they have to register ahead of time using an application that has been developed for this purpose.
  • In the classroom, there is no sitting in the front row and the students are requested to sit only in places that are marked for that purpose and with an empty seat between each student.
  • At the end of the lecture, please ask the students to vacate the classroom and building as soon as possible so as to allow the next group of students to enter safely.
  • If you wish to continue talking with students after the lecture, please do so in the open air and not in the classroom.
  • You are requested to continue recording all your lectures for students unable to attend (if you are teaching in a non-hybrid classroom, please use the Zoom on your computer to record and share the screen with the PowerPoint presentation).
  • If you are not recording your lectures, it is your responsibility to find a solution for students who are unable to attend.
  • Courses taking place in hybrid classrooms where attendance is obligatory, physical or online attendance is acceptable.
  • Students without a Green Pass are permitted to come to teaching labs / professional training which will continue to be held according to the “Purple Label” guidelines (2m between each student and a smaller group of students).

Additional Activities on Campus

  • Conferences, Departmental Seminars – up to 20 attendees indoors (in a room which safely allows for this number following guidelines). Meetings – up to 10 people.
  • Eating in cafeterias will be according to the Green Passport guidelines.
  • Demonstrations can be held according to the guidelines for demonstrations, with prior approval from BGU’s Coronavirus Supervisor, and keeping physical distance between demonstrators.
  • Departmental social events – up to 20 attendees if held inside and up to 50 attendees outside. All participants must be seated whether inside or outside. Food can only be provided in personal portions (not a buffet).
  • Children are not allowed to be brought on campus.

We hope that the numbers of sick people with the virus will continue to decrease swiftly and that there will not be any more national lockdowns that will force us back online again.

Looking forward to seeing you all on campus,

Chaim
